Casa Brazil, Brazilian buffet and BBQ restaurant. Cabot Circus, Bristol.

On Saturday I did the one thing I haven’t done in a long while! I went out for dinner with my other half! Now I can hear you screaming! “YOU LIAR YOU’RE FORVER EATING OUT TOGETHER! Well yes that is true to a certain extent. You see most of the time when we go out we go with other people. There’s usually a group of us that go to a restaurant or a bar. But on Saturday we decided to take ourselves off into the city and have a walk through the streets have a drink or two on the way and eat out without an entourage.

We started off in Old Market and had a couple of drinks there. I can’t remember the name of the pub but it was towards the top of the street near the traffic lights. It was quite depressing actually walking up from by the once glittering and flamboyant gin palace to the centre of town. Boarded up shops, littered pavements, and the smell of funny cigarettes polluting the air. There was a time when you could walk up Old market and most of the bars where busy and busting with life. Now it’s a miserable shadow of it’s former self. Once we’d finished our drinks we made the short walk into Cabot Circus and to our restaurant destination of choice for the evening “Casa Brazil”

Now this place is located on the top floor of Cabot Circus towards the back near the crazy golf place and Costa Coffee. Two establishments I would never frequent. One because I can’t play golf. And the other because I can’t stand Costa Coffee. In fact Coffee shops for me are a no go area! So I never would have known Casa Brazil would have existed because I have no reason to visit that end of the upper floors. But because I took the escalator at that end the week before I came across this little gem! With its huge plate glass window, neon sign and colourful display this is an inviting and exciting place to come across. You have to book! You may get lucky by getting a table off the street but I’d highly recommend you book this place is very popular. Our table was booked for 8pm and we arrived in good time and where seated almost strait away. As the name suggests this is a Brazilian restaurant with all the trimmings. What I mean by that is it is like walking into a Brazilian Mardi Gras party. There’s lively music, elaborate decoration, food everywhere and fantastic cocktails flying round the place. This place is buzzing.

There’s two ways you can enjoy dinner at Casa Brazil. You can have the buffet and the buffet only. Which don’t get me wrong is delicious but you are limiting your options. Or you can be a meat loving, quantity consuming, eyes bigger than your belly gluttonous pig and have their BBQ, buffet and dessert option. Which do you think I went for? That’s right I was the fat knacker in the corner shovelling rare beef and caramelised leg of lamb down my neck and stockpiling on the buffet bar! You’re given your drinks we just had table water, then they invite you to start eating. Plates are provided at the buffet station. You help yourself up as much of the fresh salad (I can highly recommend the coleslaw), rice, fried fish and cheesy potatoes (again go for them they are good) as you want. You are given a little card. One side is green the other is red. Turn it to green and the waiter who had written on his shirt “come hungry” I thought he was trying to tell us something and got a little overworked until I read the rest of it which read “and leave happy”! (Not so exciting after all) Will bring round the best BBQ you will ever taste in your life. Whole rumps of beef, sirloins, legs of lamb, sausages, chicken and pork are all on offer. All cooked to perfection and mouthwateringly good. So good every time you take a bite you smile. Your belly smiles. Your whole being skyrockets to another level. A meat induced gastronomical orgasm. A foodie climax so great you want it to continue to take advantage of your taste senses time and time again!

If you turn the card to red then the waiters bypass your table as this signals that you’ve got the meat sweats and your one chicken leg away from hospitalisation. It’s a really good system actually because it gives you a breather if you need one. Because otherwise you just won’t say no and they won’t stop delivering either. So having this little system is place is good I think. All the meats are delicious. The cheesy belly pork is something else. It might not sound that great but trust me it works. The crunch of the cracking and the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese crust is just unbelievable. The leg of lamb, succulent and juicy. Perfectly pink and so tender. It’s caramelised outer skin is heavenly. If you could eat a piece of heaven then this is what it would taste like. Brazilian barbecued lamb served by a guy in an extremely tight t-shirt with a rather misleading statement on it and more muscle than a fishmongers trade counter! After we had had our fill it was time to move onto dessert. The pudding trolley is not overloaded with goodies but after forging on all of that rich BBQ then you don’t need a great deal after. Their Oreo cookie moose was astounding. Really tasty, not to heavy and a perfect end to a perfect meal.

This place is a hidden gem in Bristol’s crown. It’s well worth coming into the city just for this. The parking is not an issue as it is located in Cabot Circus so it’s also easily accessible. I’d recommend this place to anyone that wants really really good food, who likes the buffet experience and wants to try something completely different. It’s great for families, couples and parties. Not the best place if you’re a veggie or a vegan. But they do cater for you lot so there’s something there for you also. I’ll definitely 100% be going back I suggest you do also.
